Artemide is an Italian lighting company that was founded in 1960 by Ernesto Gismondi and Sergio Mazza. The company started out as a small design firm focused on creating lighting solutions for homes and businesses.

One of the company's most iconic designs from this period is the Nesso table lamp, which was created by Giancarlo Mattioli and Gruppo Architetti Urbanisti Città Nuova and was awarded the Compasso d'Oro design award in 1967.

In 1998, the company launched the Tolomeo lamp, designed by Michele De Lucchi and Giancarlo Fassina, which became another iconic piece of Italian design.
