Fristho (Friesche Stoel-en Houtwarenfabriek) was a renowned Dutch furniture brand, established in 1921 in the town of Franeker, Netherlands. The company gained significant recognition during the mid-20th century for producing modern, high-quality furniture, especially during the 1950s and 60s. Fristho is closely associated with the rise of mid century modern design and became popular for its elegant and innovative pieces, often blending Scandinavian simplicity with international influences.

Fristho collaborated with prominent designers such as Pierre Paulin and Kho Liang Ie, both of whom contributed to the brand’s modernist reputation. Pierre Paulin’s designs for Fristho stood out for their experimental forms and materials, while Kho Liang Ie introduced sleek, functional lines that helped define Fristho’s aesthetic.

The brand’s furniture typically features the use of natural woods like teak and rosewood, combined with modern materials such as metal and glass. Fristho’s designs often balanced functionality with aesthetic appeal, resulting in items like sideboards, dining sets, and coffee tables that are still highly collectible today.

Although Fristho ceased production in the late 1970s, its pieces remain iconic and are particularly prized by collectors of mid century modern design
