Anglespoise Lamp

The Anglespoise Lamp is a type of task lamp that is designed to be adjustable and versatile. The lamp was first introduced in the 1930s by the British designer George Carwardine, who was looking for a way to create a lamp that could be adjusted in any direction.

Carwardine was inspired by the way that human limbs could move and support weight, and he set out to create a lamp that used a similar system of springs and tension to hold its position. He eventually developed a system of springs and levers that allowed the lamp to be adjusted in a wide range of positions, without the need for any external supports.

The first Anglespoise Lamp was launched in 1933, and it quickly became popular with architects, designers, and artists who needed a flexible and reliable light source for their work. During World War II, the lamp was also used by the military, as its adjustable design made it ideal for use in cramped and confined spaces.

Over the years, the Anglespoise Lamp has continued to evolve and improve, with new materials and technologies being incorporated into its design. Today, the lamp is still manufactured in the UK and is sold all over the world. It has become an icon of British design and is recognised as a classic example of form and function working together to create a timeless product.
