The company was founded in 1946 by Jack Austen, who had previously worked for the British furniture manufacturer Harris Lebus.Austinsuite initially produced utility furniture, which was simple and functional furniture made during the austerity period following World War II. The company quickly became known for its high-quality, well-designed furniture, and expanded its range to include bedroom and dining room furniture.In the 1960s, Austinsuite embraced the popular mid century modern style and began producing furniture with clean lines and simple shapes. The company's furniture was designed to be both functional and stylish, and was often made from teak and other hardwoods.Austinsuite worked with several designers over the years includin Frank Guille, Peter Hayward, John Wright, and John Bonett.Austinsuite's furniture was popular throughout the 1960s and 1970s, and was sold in high-end department stores such as Harrods and Selfridges. The company's furniture was also exported to countries around the world, including the United States and Australia.Today, Austinsuite furniture is highly sought after by collectors and enthusiasts of mid-century modern design.
